This Tibetan antique Buddha statue is an exceptionally rare gilt bronze Tiger-Faced Ekajati from the Qing Dynasty, known as one of the most extraordinary finds in Tibetan Buddhist art. Ekajati, with lion, bear, and tiger faces, represents the protective deities associated with the Bodhisattvas Avalokiteshvara, Manjushri, and Samantabhadra. The Tiger-Faced Ekajati specifically serves as the guardian deity manifested from Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, making it a remarkably uncommon subject rarely encountered in the field. This gilt bronze Tiger-Faced Ekajati features a fierce expression with a round face, wide open mouth displaying fangs and a curled tongue, erect ears, and flaming ear ornaments symbolizing wrath.
Ekajati is depicted bare-chested with prominent breasts and draped in a human skin over her back, adorned with a tiger skin skirt around her lower body. Her right hand holds a crescent-shaped knife aloft, while her left hand cradles a skull cup, positioned at either side of her body. The Tiger-Faced Ekajati stands in a dancing posture with her right leg raised on a lotus pedestal. Despite its modest size, this statue is of exceptional quality, adorned with the Ekajati's heart mantra inscribed on the lotus pedestal, marking it as a top-tier artifact.
This incredibly rare and unique subject matter is a must-have for discerning collectors interested in Tibetan Buddha statues.
