This Tibetan antique statue depicts Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, also known as Earth Treasury Bodhisattva or Earth Store Bodhisattva. Named for his steadfastness akin to the Earth and deep contemplation like a hidden treasury, Ksitigarbha is revered for his compassionate qualities. This rare depiction features him holding a treasure vase in one hand and a Mani jewel in the other, symbolizing his role as the protector of wealth and treasures in the Nyingma tradition.

Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva wears a crown adorned with floral motifs and a tall ushnisha. Ribbons on the sides of his head are tied in small knots at the top of his ears, forming snake-like curls below. His face is full with a round, robust chin, slightly arched eyebrows, a short nose, and thick lips, exuding a serene and tranquil demeanor. Broad shoulders taper to a slender waist, enhancing the soft contours of his body.

Adorned with necklaces and chains, the statue also features a U-shaped beaded festoon below the collar. He wears a long skirt with a belt around the waist and a flowing mantle draped over the shoulders. Bracelets embellish both hands and feet. The realistic depiction of fabric folds and flowing lines enhances the lifelike appearance, gracefully draping over the pedestal.

Seated in a meditative posture with crossed legs, he holds the Mani jewel in his right hand and the treasure vase in his left. The lotus pedestal is semi-circular and tightly bound at the waist, with large and full petals, reflecting his association with wealth and treasures. This statue originates from the earliest Nyingma monastery in Garze Prefecture, symbolising its profound historical and spiritual significance.
